Reiki & My Nomadic Life

The Milky Way

This article was first published here:

This article is borne of my own lack of desire to get or have ‘roots’ in this incarnation. For so long, I’ve been struggling with a nagging inner voice that pushes me to venture out and expand my horizons, travel to new places and connect with new people for whom Reiki Energy may be helpful.

I was rooted in a toxic relationship many years, while at the same time I was on a Spiritual path to awakening to who I truly am. Whilst allowing myself & my energy to be quashed by remaining in an extremely toxic & non-productive union with someone who did not care about me as a person, and least of all about my spiritual life; I remained trapped within my own self-created prison.

I used Reiki Energy and even upgraded my Reiki Master/Teacher certification during that period of time, and obtained a second certification as a Reiki Master Teacher in the Holy Fire® Reiki tradition. Holy Fire® Reiki changed the direction of my Life immensely, as did my own practice of meditation, affirmations, inner work and self-healing.

After many years of contemplation and standstill, my Spirit is rooted in expansiveness, Light & fearlessness. I’ve tethered my Self to Life in such a way as to incorporate Reiki Energy and the Unconditional Love of self and others to expand my Life and move forward on my personal and spiritual Reiki Nomadic Journey.

Reiki & My Nomadic Life

I currently travel all over the United States ~ (and soon will incorporate Canada & Mexico, as well) ~ carrying with me Love, Light & Reiki towards all sentient beings whom I come into contact with. My inner compass leads the way as I contract with various facilities to work for 6-13 week stints caring for patients in a conventional, yet unconventional way in hospitals across the United States.

During these short-term contracts, I meet people from all walks of Life and with various vibrational levels. Some of these people are bathed in the vibrations of sorrow, some in hope, some in defeat, some in strength. In whatever way these souls present themselves to me, I align with their spirit and meet them exactly where they are, always with openness and integrity.

When I meet them with Presence and non-judgement, and speak to them about the amazing effects (and affects) of Reiki Energy ~ the Universal Life Force ~ they either shy away from its healing benefits, or they accept it at face value, and begin to ask questions. Either way, each of these precious Souls has been exposed to Reiki, the Universal Energy, and from this point forward will always be aware that there is an Ever-Present Energy in the Universe that heals profoundly and completely.

Naturally, one does not need to be a nomad to share the richness and beauty of Reiki Energy. This is my personal calling and I’m following my own path. I simply wanted to share it with other practitioners who may have a similar desire to travel simply and help others open to their own highest potential.

BLESSED REIKI!

Reiki is consistently ever-present for me
This blog post was first published here

Consistent Reiki

When I wake up in the morning, Reiki is present. Reiki is present with me throughout my day. Reiki energy surrounds me whilst I sleep. Even if I forget to invoke my symbols, the energy of Reiki continues to nudge me gently throughout my day: “Wake up! I’m here! Call on me!” Reiki energy seems to whisper urgently. It’s been this way for a long time and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

During the first few years of awakening to my Authentic Self, I used self-Reiki consciously and regularly. I’d virtually forgotten about my Reiki empowerment or having been blessed with Reiki in the midst of my personal healing and growth Journey. Everything came before Reiki energy, even after I’d been attuned to my Level III Usui Master/Teacher. My Reiki Sensei gently informed me that everything would happen when it was ‘right’ and I didn’t need to push Reiki in my own Life or in anyone else’s. It simply is.

Reiki is an Extension of Me

Now, it’s as though Reiki is an extension of myself, like an arm or a leg. It literally comes with me where I go, wherever I am, whomever I interact with. No matter that others have no clue what I’m doing when I draw a symbol in the air arbitrarily. Most of the time, I do this with my imagination now, but years ago, I’d use my finger to draw a symbol in the air above my head or when I entered a room where the energy felt dense, sticky.

It’s simpler now that I’ve been attuned to the sweet & powerful energy of Holy Fire II Karuna™ Reiki. Now I simply access and focus on the symbols I wish to invoke and the energy instantaneously flows working its powerful magic in any given situation or on any willing participant. So in this moment, being my Authentic Self is easier than ever as Reiki guides me on a daily basis.
Reiki helps Manifest my Life situations

Reiki Manifests my Authentic Life

Reiki energy is useful in manifesting my authentic Life with ease and grace. It is the innate fabric of my very Being, interwoven delicately, intricately within my energy field. Reiki continues to have huge impacts on how well I manifest anything into my Life situations. When I’m struggling to remain Present and focused, Reiki is here to gently nudge me back into Presence, back into Love and into the higher vibrational energy field. And I remain grateful and honored. I am blessed!

For me personally, Reiki is the Divine I Am consciousness, the Light Force, the Power of Now. Reiki is perfect. Angelic. Purity. Divine Love.

Thank you Archangels, Angels, Divine Masters, Ascended Light Masters, Reiki Masters, Undines, Fairies, Elementals and All Sentient Beings & Light Beings.

Blessings, Love & Light, My Friends ~

The Intricate Presence of Reiki

THIS ARTICLE WAS FIRST PUBLISHED HERE

Reiki Energy is a refuge for many practitioners

Reiki Energy: A Spiritual Tool

By now, we may all be able (or willing) to agree that Reiki is a form of energy work that is described by practitioners and clients alike as healing, soothing, gentle, intelligently designed and, let’s face it, amazing! Every single day I strive to think about, meditate on or practice Reiki in my daily Life. I fall short often, but on the days that I feel spot on energetically, everything else falls into place nicely. Synchronicity. I love when it happens!

When I’m on my game, not only do benefit, but everyone around me benefits, as well.  Those are the days I’m more aware of Presence. I often wonder how many Reiki practitioners over the years have achieved enlightenment or reached higher conscious through utilizing Reiki as part of their spiritual practice

When I was initially introduced to Reiki Energy, I held it in the highest esteem and felt Reiki was something one uses only in therapeutic settings. What I mean by that is I treated Reiki as though it was separate from me, the person. Clearly, I revered its divinely guided intelligence; yet, I seldom called upon it, unless it was for someone else’s benefit. I rarely, if ever, thought about using Reiki on a daily basis like people do with prayer, mantras, chanting or meditation.

I was virtually clueless as to how to apply Reiki using it as a spiritual tool. I did not realize that its powerful, cosmic energy could be exceptional in helping myself, my plants, my pets, my children or even my vehicles flourish.

Presently for me, Reiki Energy is like an American Express™ card: I never leave home without it. Reiki is an extension of me and has become an aspect of me in many ways. As time has passed, my energy signature has intertwined with Reiki, much like those model strands of DNA we see in science journals. Reiki energy is the powerful, gentle wizard of wellness that I carry close to my heart and soul. It’s my half-full glass of Life giving water, my lush and loving oasis in the arid, scorching desert of Life.

Reiki Evolution

How did it happen that Reiki became one of the Life saving devices I cling to on a daily basis, much like the Supreme Intelligence (God) and spirituality? How did Reiki become my companion, colleague and caregiver ~ what I like to call the 3C’s? When I was initially attuned in the 1STand 2ND degrees of Usui Shiki Ryoho, my Reiki Sensei explained Reiki energy and it’s origins to me thoroughly.

Each Energy Center in our body correlates with
specific organs & functions
I learned about its powerful essence and was Attuned in Reiki in the old method, which is to say very little information was written down for me. My lessons were mostly ‘word of mouth’, although my Sensei did provide us with her version of ‘Cliff Notes’, which helped me immensely when I energy more frequently.
began to work with the

I sought other Reiki practitioners in my area, but at the time they were few and far between in a small town in Maine. When I did meet others with whom I could share Reiki, we’d meet once or twice with big ideas and plans to ‘start a community support group for Reiki practitioners’. Our ideas, like our meetings, dwindled over time what with Life happening all around us. I was a single mother raising my preteen children virtually alone. I also worked full time as a mental health practitioner. Free time was a luxury that at that point in my Life felt light years away.

Today, over twenty years later, my connection with Reiki healing energy is the anchor that keeps me connected to Mother Earth as I explore higher realms of Consciousness. Today, the Reiki Principles apply wholly to my every day Life. Reiki keeps me grounded and connected to Mother Earth. I’m eternally grateful that Reiki sought me out in this incarnation and connected once again with my soul.

Bright Reiki Blessings to All!

Meditation & Reiki: A Winning Combination

This article was first published on the web at this link: Reiki Rays

Preparing for Meditation
Meditation connects you to the Cosmos

Humans tend to over-think, over-analyze, over-process and over-exaggerate. It's an affliction of the mind, the ego. The ego is constantly threatened with annihilation, so it clings to conditioned thinking with a ferocious, white-knuckled grip. It's not easy to let go of all the extraneous garbage that clogs up our mindscape and sometimes renders us immobile, because fear (anxiety) is debilitating if we allow it to be. Meditation helps us to quiet the mind

Perhaps it will take a bit of time for the quieting of our mind to come about. Prior to any meditation session, it’s helpful to calm yourself with Reiki energy first. Now that I’ve obtained the Holy Fire® Karuna Reiki Master certification, I use the powerful Kriya. But previously, I always used CKR to prepare for my meditation session.

When going into a meditative session, ego will attempt to disrupt us at times by creating agitation and unease. Simply allow your thoughts to come in without judging them or giving them an audience. Allow the thoughts to come in, acknowledge the thought and don't give the thought any more time or energy than that. If it seems your mind is running away with thoughts, bring your attention back to your breathing.

Quieting the Mind

Allow your thoughts to flow in & out without judgement

Focus on each inhalation of breath deep into the lungs, as well as each exhalation through up and through your lips. Calm and relaxed. Calm and relaxed. In that way, your mind becomes quiet one thought at a time. There are other ways to quiet the mind, as well, but the preceding explanation is simple and effective.

Meditation can be taught to your clients who have anxiety issues, bipolar disorder, PTSD and other mental health issues. Meditation helps us to relax, to expand our consciousness, and to ease unwarranted fears and anxieties. It's a most effective remedy for those who are interested in quieting their minds naturally without using drugs, chemicals or any other extraneous or unhealthy methods.

Meditation, when practiced regularly, can change anyone’s Life dramatically. If you're a non-believer, one who thinks he or she cannot meditate or who thinks you cannot let go of anxiety without the use of pills, chemicals or other unhealthy means, continue doing what you've been doing, by all means.

When you're tired of living as you have been, beating your head against the brick wall over and over and expecting different results ~ perhaps you'll seek out a person who can help you learn to meditate effectively.

Meditation has changed my Life exponentially. It can change anyone’s Life for the better when practiced regularly. Try it. You've got nothing to lose ~ except your fears, anxieties and agitation.

Peace, Love & Light to all ~

Reiki & Emotional Release

Our thoughts are energy and our thoughts create reality

Emotional Roller Coasters

Emotional roller coasters have been described as the usual ups and downs of Life. Actually, it’s not an emotional roller coaster unless we ALLOW it to be.

Remember, it took us many years to establish and connect to the 'social thought patterns and conditioning' that we've been imbued with throughout our Lifetimes. We were taught (conditioned) to feel, think, and do things in a way that is appropriate for the good of all humanity, or so our ancestors thought. We were conditioned to act, think, and behave in a way that is both pleasing and appropriate of us as human beings. When we allow ourselves to feel each emotion, and to contemplate each emotion individually, we are doing ourselves a huge favor.

Our Thoughts are Energy

CHANGE takes TIME ... those nasty wounds aren't going to heal overnight. It’s been years since some of them have been accessed and years more since we acquired the appropriate coping mechanisms to deal with such powerful bursts of energy. That’s what emotions are: Energy. Pure and Simple.

Whenever you hear the term ‘emotion’ you simply need to imagine the energy behind each one. Behind the force of anger, there is a massive amount of emotional energy. Pain is the basis of the terrifying and sometimes destructive emotion of anger. Everything that can be destroyed can be constructed. That is the main point to remember: Sometimes, the DEstruction of an entity may result in the CONstruction of something more sublime. We need to learn to accept rather than judge our emotions if we are to reconcile them to simply being part of the human condition.

The Emotion of Anger

Take the emotion of anger, for instance. I allow myself to feel anger, allow the anger to BE, love and accept the anger just as it is and try not to judge it. I don't attempt to change or thwart it. I simply let it BE. Perhaps I can learn something from my own
anger: Where is it coming from? Is it part of feeling envious, ignored, second-guessed? Is it simply there because it is attempting to mask a more deep-seated painful memory? Is it a reaction to something that has been said in the moment?

When I allow myself to process the emotional responses (energy) that my body harbors, I become even more in tune with each emotional response. Then, I use one of the powerful Reiki healing symbols to help heal it. Also, adding a positive affirmation to the mix helps immensely.

For instance, suddenly I feel anxiety and anger arising in my gut. I mentally ask myself: Where is this emotion coming from? Why is it coming up for me? If I can answer one or both questions right then and there, I’m golden. Otherwise, I simply acknowledge that I’m feeling angry or agitated or anxious, and I state to myself: “All is right in my world at this moment in time” or simply “All is right in my world” Affirmations such as these have kept me going for years and are actually a source of inspiration and freedom for me. If we learn to harness the power of positive affirmations, and combine them with powerful, healing Reiki Energy, we can change our Life!

The next time a powerful emotion is threatening to take you over, face it head on and bless it with Reiki. In blessing it and acknowledging it, you can literally change it. And by infusing Chokurei or another powerful Reiki symbol into that emotion you can change it completely into Love. Try it ~ you've nothing to lose!

Blessings, Peace & Love, my friends ~

Tossing Out the Old: Happy New Year 2016!

The celebration of the New Year each year on January 1st has always been such a special time for me, ever since I was a young child. The memories of having been shooed off to bed on New Year's Eve, especially on the years that it was our parent's turn to host the annual NYE party at their home, has imprinted delightful images on my Heart. On New Year's morning, my brothers, sisters and I would creep into the kitchen to feast on the leftovers of the adult NYE spread. That means that chips, dips, shrimp cocktail, onion soup, and other appetizing treats awaited our eager mouths and rumbling tummies. It was the perfect breakfast to start the New Year off right!

The New Year has always been a simple, symbolic time for cleansing and purging of all the negative energies that have accumulated throughout the preceding year. Over the years, I've developed a ritualistic burning of some of my old journals in honor of having transcended the negative, toxic memories of the past year. Sometimes, the old, dark, haunted memories of childhood steal their way into my brain, as well. Those memories are welcomed, accepted, and released during my ritualistic burning of 'old things'. Each year, the childhood memories get less and less, and the newer, less traumatic memories become light, airy ash that effortlessly float away on the breeze of Time.

Reiki has remained a grounding force in this ritualistic process, and I simply introduced Reiki energy into my burning ritual one year by blessing the entire process, and introducing the symbol of my choice (Chokurei) into the mix via drawing it into the fire. Reiki energy is the healing energy of the Universe, and its powerful effects are far-reaching and sometimes subtle, sometimes conspicuous. No, the fire didn't spit and sputter and otherwise dance with glee when I drew the symbol into it. Reiki energy chose to be mindful of the seriousness of my process, and it simply and subtly infused my ritual with healing, loving energy.

One of the most precious things anyone can do for oneself at the turn of a New Year is to reflect upon the past year and think about ways that certain situations could be remedied or rectified by changing his or her perspective about it. Our perceptions are what force us to look at any given situation and judge it as either 'negative' or 'positive'. In reality, nothing is good or bad. Everything simply IS. We are a race of beings (human beings) that harbors a need to compartmentalize and group things together, and our intrinsic fluidity is compromised when we begin to do so. If we simply allowed things to BE, we wouldn't have the urge to group everything and everyone together, and everyone would be happy with what they create on a daily basis. Or so I theorize.

Our limiting thought patterns and our EGO can both be great obstacles in getting out of our own way at times. Our EGO wants to keep us stuck in social thinking patterns, no matter how unhealthy and limiting these patterns can be for us as Spiritual beings. We need to learn to discern what is good for us and what isn't so healthy for us. There are some, as the 12 Step literature and other spiritual books have pointed out who are simply constitutionally incapable of being aware of their own mind, and seeing their own part in situations. And that in and of itself is a type of affliction of Spirit. When we can not reconcile our thoughts and our actions, it's difficult to truly know who we are at the Core.

We are all born with Love at our Core. Unconditional Love. Daily gratitude is key in the source of your Joy. Be grateful for everything you are, and everything you choose to be.

I want to wish ALL my readers a Happy, Healthy New Year in 2016!
May your Love expand and your Energy heal ~

A New Paradigm: FEAR: Facilitate Everything, Always using Reiki

This article was first published here:

A very thoughtful and poignant post about fear on my daughter’s social site page one morning catapulted me into considering my own inbred fears, and how I've overcome so many of those fears in my short Lifetime. Fear is not a stranger to anyone on this planet, and its insidious tentacles reach out to us in many ways, gripping our Souls and minds, and rooting in our psyches. Fear comes in many shapes, forms, and sizes; and it can be pervasive, invasive, and totally debilitating.

It isn't ever easy to change our responses and/or reactions to fear, nor is it easy to identity the emotion behind fear, or become totally aware of it in any given situation. Over the years, I’ve become familiar with many acronyms for the word FEAR; such as ‘Face Everything and Recover’ and ‘False Evidence Appearing Real’, which was another tidbit that prompted me to write this article about Reiki and the term ‘fear’. Additionally, I wanted to create an acronym for our vast Reiki community to discuss fear with our clientele and each other that would have some meaning behind it: Create a new paradigm and a new acronym for the word ‘fear’. I took the word and began playing around with various other words, and came up with this acronym: ‘Facilitate Everything, Always using Reiki’. When Reiki is involved, we can be assured that any outcome will be infused with a vibration that is geared towards our highest good!

As Reiki practitioners and human beings, we must try to remember that nothing is ever truly ‘good’ or ‘bad’, ‘negative’ or ‘positive’. It is our perception of the illusions that our ego creates, and our EGO (Easing God Out) that labels our Life situations ‘good’, ‘bad’, ‘negative’, ‘positive’, etc. We label (judge) our thoughts, situations, actions, and so on, because our ego feels a need to categorize everything, when in reality we are all one with each other, with our situations, and with our thoughts. We are a fear-based race ~ the human race ~ and sometimes others' perceptions, words, and actions can plummet us into a fear-filled vacuum from which it can be difficult to extract ourselves. Reiki can facilitate and ensure a smooth landing, so to speak, when our world appears to be turned upside down in the chaos and fear of certain Life situations.

Our analytical minds tend to over-think our emotional responses to fear. In fact, our analytical minds tend to over-think all of our emotions, rather than simply allowing us to ‘sit’ with those emotions, and observe where they will go, and/or what they will create or become. When we learn to live in our Heart Center ~ live Heart-Centered, rather than Ego-centered ~ fear, anxiety, and other negative emotions are decreased, if not banished altogether. We can utilize the power behind Reiki to clear our hearts of what we perceive as ‘negative’ emotions: anger, sadness, fear, jealousy, etc. It’s not as simple a process as my words tend to make it seem, but it is easy. It is not a concept that can actually be intellectualized, but one that can be felt, or perceived on a ‘feeling’ level. Reiki can help us to determine and discern (or sort out) our old and outmoded thought patterns, and Reiki can also help us to become more feeling-centered (heart-centered) than ego-centered. We can use Reiki healing energy to heal our past, to bless our future, and to remain in the Present. Being present allows us to heal ourselves, and in turn facilitate healing for our clients.

How do we learn to live in our Heart-Center? We simply practice living in the moment, rather than in the past or in the future. Living in the moment takes a lot of practice, and as the saying goes, 'practice makes perfect'. It's commonplace to find oneself in the future or in the past at any given moment of any day. Most of us simply cannot seem to stay present all the time, or even 10%, 20%, or more of the time! Over recent months, I’ve determined that Reiki helps me to maintain more Presence during the day, when I’m surrounded by the various energies of colleagues, strangers, family, or friends.

I’ve always felt most centered and in touch with the Divine when I am out alone in Nature, sitting quietly and simply observing what surrounds me. Excursions on my own, by my Self, allow me to connect to my Divinity within and without, and helps me to connect with my True Self, or Higher Self ~ my Spirit. In this way, I align my Soul with the Divine. Some people call this act ‘Surrender’, but I call it ‘Connecting’. I choose to see that each of us has Divinity within ourselves, and that Divine Spark is what is intricately woven into the very fabric of each organ, tissue, and cell in our physical form. Without the Divine Spark of God, nothing would be made manifest. God is the actual Life within each of us, the Essence of each of us.

When we are fearful, worried, stressed ~ we are most likely living in the Future, and worrying about something that hasn't happened, but that we fear may happen. When we are sad, depressed, angry ~ we are living in the past, remembering what someone said, did, (or didn't do!) and feeling the emotions that surrounded those circumstances. In the moment, in the Present (or the Now) there is nothing but bliss, Love, compassion, and contentment. The Present, the Now, is filled with Love, Bliss, and Serenity, because in the Present, there simply are no problems. If we continue to live in the Past, or the Future, we are not allowing ourselves to be Present. Reiki helps me anchor myself in the Present, even if for short periods or quick ‘glimpses’ of it. If we practice living in the Now, we no longer worry about the future or feel sad or angry about the past. How can we be present if we are also in the past or the future?

It sounds so simple, doesn't it? It takes much more practice and mental focus than one can imagine. The good news is that with practice and diligence, we learn to live in the Now, and be present. And using the power of Reiki to help us stay anchored in the present, we cannot go wrong! We can be free from fear, and its constant nagging, burning pain. When I awaken in the morning, I try to remember to invoke the healing power of Reiki energy, along with my Higher Power, Guides, and Angels, to facilitate my day. None of us need live in FEAR (Face Everything And Recover!) any longer, when we understand the meaning of FEAR (Facilitate Everything, Always using Reiki!) and the power behind the Universal Energy that we’ve been imbued with! Thank you Reiki Grand Masters, Reiki Angels, and Reiki Undines …   Namasté.

Some Reiki Information

There is so much information about Reiki on the Internet, in libraries, in bookstores, and in other media today, it can be very confusing and sometimes daunting, even for experienced practitioners. This post is being written from my personal point of view about REIKI, how it has slowly permeated every area of my Life since I was Attuned in the late 1990's, and how it has opened new avenues for healing in my personal wellness, as well as in my clients and patients lives.

Dr. Mikao Usui
Chujiro Hayashi
Hawaya Takata
I was Attuned with Reiki Levels I & II in the Usui Rhoyo Tradition. My Reiki Master teacher, Vicky Walsh, was Attuned by Reiki Master John Gray, who was one of the first 22 Reiki Practitioners Attuned by world-reknowned Reiki teacher,  Hawaya Takata, who brought Reiki to the United States in the 1930's after being healed from a serious and potentially fatal illness in Japan with Reiki, rather than with surgery. Mrs. Takata learned and was Attuned to Reiki by Chujiro Hayashi, who had been Attuned previously by none other than Dr. Mikao Usui. Therefore, my practice with Reiki is considered '3rd generation' for whatever that means. When I teach and Attune students in the practice of Reiki, I was taught to include the 'family tree' from which I was Attuned.
John Gray
To make my long story short, I was introduced to Reiki in the early 1990's in Portland, Maine, but did not become Attuned until January 1997. I adore Usui Reiki, and any form of Energy Work, for that matter. It is widely available to anyone, anywhere. Usui Reiki is a practice of self-healing, and the more a practitioner uses Reiki on him- or herself, the more attuned to this healing energy he or she becomes. I did not understand the importance of self-Reiki until much later in my post-Reiki years, and it has helped me to blossom immensely.

Usui Reiki is the original Reiki energy, rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the 1920's, but there have been many other forms of Reiki discovered over the last 50 or so years. This blog mostly refers to Usui Reiki, as that is the traditional Reiki practice I was taught and attuned in. My Reiki Master teacher is also a Karuna Reiki Master, but this blog will primarily focus on Usui/Tibetan Reiki.

The results of receiving a Reiki treatment are enhanced health and well-being, among other benefits. Human beings are energetic bodies, and receiving a Reiki treatment balances and soothes chaotic energy systems, as well as balancing the Chakra system if the experienced practitioner is in tune with his or her client. A person who treats himself and others feels a renewed sense of well-being and energy, and a lightness that can not be explained, nor can it be matched. Reiki can also be projected across time and space, as energy never ceases to exist, according to physics. Energy can neither be created, nor destroyed. When Reiki is projected across time and space, it is called Distant Reiki, or Distance healing.

Distance healing can be as effective as hands on healing, but can be performed from long distances. Reiki energy knows no boundaries and transcends time and space freely. Reiki goes where Reiki is needed, so the premise of laying hands in particular positions is moot, and is usually an intuitive practice. Although Reiki teachers, such as myself, will teach hand positions to students, a responsible Reiki teacher will also let his or her students know that Intuition plays a key role in hand placement.

There are five spiritual precepts for daily living that were handed down from Dr. Mikao Usui as part of the oral tradition of Reiki. These precepts are as follows:

Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Honor your parents, teachers, and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show gratitude to every living thing.
Reiki translated from Japanese Kanji to English
These precepts are simplistic and if everyone tries to live by them, the world will become a more peaceful place to live. I use Reiki in the course of my days at work, while working with patients, and sometimes with colleagues. I strive to treat myself to Reiki on a daily basis, as well, especially in recent months. I was always encouraged to treat myself daily (by my Reiki Master teacher) but at times I'm a slow learner, and in recent years and months, as I stated previously, I've become more aware of the profound effects of self-Reiki.

More about Reiki and its healing properties and energy in upcoming posts, my dear readers.

For now, I bid you all adieu.
Namaste, my friends ...

Integrative Medicine: Alternative & Western Medical Practices

"A wise man should consider that health is the greatest
of human blessings, and learn how by his own
thought to derive benefit from his illnesses" ~ Hippocrates

The Beginnings of Natural Healing

Hippocrates, the 'Father of Medicine' as he has been touted for centuries is hailed as being the founder of natural healing and medicine. His words and brilliance has shined on through the ages, and even modern-day Western doctors take the 'Hippocratic Oath' to 'harm none' when they become medical doctors. Unfortunately, the premise of Hippocrates words and practice ~ the natural basis of medicine ~ has been thwarted, twisted, and all but lost with the dawn of modern Western medicine and its multi-billion dollar corporate backing.

Hippocrates, the 'Father of Medicine'
Modern Western medicine is usually about greed, chemical and/or temporary 'fixes', and perpetuating illness. After all, there is absolutely no profit in health and wellness.!

'Alternative' medicine is about healing, curing, and promoting wellness. When the two are integrated, it becomes less about making a profit, and more about healing others.

For some people, it doesn't matter what empirical evidence and/or theories are presented and/or supported in regard to alternative methods and medicine. A cynical person ~ what I term the 'consistent cynic' ~ will zero in, target his/her prey, and go in for the kill. Fortunately, we have holistic 'experts', holistic theorists, and holistic studies being conducted as I type. Some of the peer-reviewed information will stop the 'consistent cynic' in his or her tracks, other information is difficult to navigate and even more difficult to locate.

Alternative vs Western Medicine

Alternative medicine has been in use for thousands of years, indeed, since humans have walked the Earth. Hippocrates wrote about 'rubbing' and 'friction', which is simply therapeutic massage and its beneficial effects on a healing patient following surgery, as well as how beneficial massage was for an ailing or convalescing patient following or during an illness. If Hippocrates knew the benefits of massage therapy for the health and wellness of people, should modern day physicians prescribe the healing modalities more frequently?

Western medicine comes with a price tag that is astronomical and oftentimes is not as effective or as healing to the recipient as a regimen of alternative medicine can be. Sometimes the proof can be seen in the pudding, so to speak. Take, for instance, a person who is diagnosed with 'fribromyalgia'. It's a relatively new diagnosis in the United States that is thought to be some type of nerve disorder. It's primary treatment is antidepressant medications and many of the symptoms of fibromyalgia mimic depression and mood disorders in general. In more recent years, Lyrica (an extremely costly chemically produced drug has been prescribed) and this disorder is said to affect more than 5 million people in the United States alone.

If we opened our minds and hearts to the ancient ways of natural healing, the 'alternative' ways of healing, we would teach each of our patients with fibromyalgia:  1) that changes in diet are of utmost importance in healing our bodies for many health issues, especially those of unknown etiology, such as many auto-immune disorders  2) stress reduction/meditation is a natural and inexpensive way to prevent cancer cells from proliferating, 3) healthy diets, exercise, and proper sleep are all conducive to healing and/or remaining in a healthy state of wellness, 4) the health of our minds, emotional selves, and physical bodies are intrinsically connected and each aspect of our Self (body, mind, spirit) is inter-related and interconnected. What we think, breathe in, and do directly affects our health either short or long term.

These are important factors to consider for any human being concerning health matters. And finally, we would teach each and every one of our patients that organically grown fruits and vegetables are most definitely healthier than commercially grown fruits and vegetables. Because fibromyalgia is a relatively new condition in this country and because there is no known cause (as there are no known causes for many other auto-immune diseases and disorders) could fibromyalgia and restless leg syndromeand so many other new diagnoses and disorders be related to some of the chemicals we ingest in our diets on a daily basis? This writer certainly feels it could be one of the issues. But perhaps those points can be discussed in future blogs. For now, we are focusing on the integration of Western and Alternative medicine.

Conclusion

Simply stated, Western medicine is not the end all or be all of medicinal practices, and there truly are many other practices, effective methods, and treatments that are available to us in the 21st century. There are various ways to get and stay healthy and Western medicine isn't the only practice that works. Sometimes, we tend to forget that point in the United States, where practices that have been working for people all over the globe for thousands of years are shunned by those who tout Western medicine as the supreme practice.
Medical Leeching: More common in the 21st Century

We are seeing many practices integrated into Western medicine again, that used to be looked upon as barbaric at the dawn of Western practices. One such practice is the use of leeches in some microsurgeries

In many U.S. hospitals and facilities, the use of medical massage, and other healing modalities such as Reiki and therapeutic touch are becoming more and more common. The U.S. is a relatively new country compared to other countries around the globe, and it seems we are beginning to see the value in alternative methods across the board when it comes to healing, curing, and practicing medicine. Perhaps the collective, ego-centric mind in the U.S. is becoming less rigid, and more pliable? Perhaps in the future, we'll see more alternative practices being integrated into medicine in the United States, and perhaps healing professions will become more and more complementary. It is certainly something to look forward to, and especially as I share my Reiki healing energy with my patients freely, and as time allows.

Our Amazing Bodies!

Our bodies are intelligent, alive, and ever-changing! At times, I contemplate the amazing-ness of my body ... its capacity to heal itself, to adjust to changes in temperature and environment, its ability to adapt in the most chaotic of circumstances. How intelligent is the Creator! Brilliant!

Oftentimes over the years I have neglected and abused my body in ways that would seem unforgivable to many. But I have learned to forgive myself for these errors in human judgment. We are all simple, mere human beings ... and we are here not to judge and be judged by each other, but to love and support one another as individuals on individual paths. Who am I to judge you for your choices? Who are you to judge me?

At the end of this year, or the beginning of 2014, my first book will be published, and soon on this blog I'll post an excerpt from that book. I've been working with it for many months between jobs, personal things, #Reiki sessions, and the like. I just felt today was a great day to post something about how amazing our bodies are!

Blessings, Light, and Love, my friends!

Protecting Yourself from Negative Energies

I've decided to re-post some of my most loved and cherished posts since I started this new blog. So this day, I share with you all about how you can protect yourself from negative energies. I've updated it a bit, as well. Enjoy!

I have been led by my Guides and the Archangels to share this beautiful card via my RSS feed this morning. It was posted on my home page by one of my many lovely contacts. To you of whom I speak, many Bright Reiki Blessings! xoxox

I am encouraged to speak my Truth about this card, as the Healing Energies of the Universe guide me. No matter who you are and no matter where you come from, this message is meant for you.

The healing energies of the Universe are open and available to YOU, today and always. The healing energies are here to assist you in healing your Heart (emotions), Mind (thoughts), and Soul (traumas) from all the harsh realities that have plagued or befallen you in this Lifetime, or any Lifetimes past.

Protect yourself from negative vibrations and those who attempt to pierce your Light Shield with negative thoughts about you, or negative words hurled at you. Even as there are boundless Light-filled, healing Energies in the Universe, there are boundless dark energies seeking to negate the Light! By protecting yourself, you are shielding yourself from those dark energies that some philosophies call 'demons' or 'shadows'.

Close your eyes, dear Ones, and imagine God (or Goddess, Allah, Jesus, Yaweh, etc.) imagine your Higher Power(s) opening His/Her hands and pouring Divine White/Golden Light down from the heavens to surround you, your beloved pets, your home, and your loved ones. Imagine that this Divine Light seeps in and around you and your loved ones, providing a Light Shield that will protect you all day from harshness, dark energies, negative people, negative thoughts, and psychic darts. Imagine that you are enveloped in this healing Divine Light as you walk, read, play, work, and go about your daily business on Mother Earth today. You are protected by Divine Light now.

Practice this exercise daily before you leave the house and upon awakening. Your Life will slowly become more tolerable, less chaotic, and much less filled with the negative drama of others ~

~ Many Bright Reiki Blessings to you All ~

Reiki Facts

I was Attuned with Reiki Levels I & II in the Usui Rhoyo Tradition. My Reiki Master teacher, Vicky Walsh, was Attuned by Reiki Master John Gray, who was one of the 22 Reiki Masters of world-reknowned Reiki Master teacher,  Hawaya Takata. Therefore, I am what is considered '3rd generation' for whatever that means!

I was introduced to Reiki in the early 1990's in Portland, Maine, but did not become Attuned until January 1997. I adore Usui Reiki! It is widely available to anyone, anywhere. Usui Reiki is a practice of self-healing, and the more a practitioner uses Reiki on him- or herself, the more attuned to this healing energy he or she becomes.

Usui Reiki is the original Reiki energy, but there have been many other forms of Reiki created and discovered in the last 50 or so years. This blog mostly refers to Usui Reiki, as that is the traditional Reiki practice I was taught and attuned in.

The results of receiving a Reiki treatment are enhanced health and well-being. Human beings are energetic bodies, and receiving a Reiki treatment balances and soothes chaotic energy systems. A person who treats himself and others feels a renewed sense of well-being and energy. Reiki can also be projected across time and space, as energy never ceases to exist.

Distance healing can be as effective as hands on healing, but can be performed from long distances. Reiki energy knows no boundaries and transcends time and space freely. Reiki goes where Reiki is needed, so the premise of laying hands in particular positions is moot. Although Reiki Master teachers, such as myself, will teach hand positions to students, a responsible Reiki Master teacher will also let her students know that Intuition plays a key role in hand placement.

There are five spiritual precepts for daily living that were handed down from Mikao Usui as part of the oral tradition of Reiki. These precepts are as follows:

Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Honor your parents, teachers, and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show gratitude to every living thing.

These precepts are simplistic and if everyone tries to live by them, the world will become a more peaceful place to live. I use Reiki in the course of my days at work, while working with patients, and sometimes with colleagues. I try to treat myself to Reiki on a daily basis, as well, especially in recent months. I was always encouraged to treat myself daily (by my Reiki Master teacher) but at times I'm a slow learner!

More about Reiki and its healing properties and energy in upcoming posts!

Namaste, my friends ...
